you really miss a great evening if you don't attend.
Stars of Paradise #56 has a BIG Variety Show planned for May 10th. Bring all of your family, and I mean ALL. You
will be glad that you did , for Betty Sweat, who is our Producer, always has a wonderful show that you will not
want to miss. It is scheduled for Saturday, May 10th, and will start at 7:00 P.M. Tickets will be $5.00 for adults and
$3.00 for children. Refreshments will be available. There will be plenty of hot dogs, Sloppy Joes , nacho's, chips ,

We have received word that our Past Grand Patron, Lee Babcock has fallen and broken a pelvic bone. He would
love to have cards reminding him that we care. Sister Vivian says he is improving slowly. Bill Lau had an
unexpected visit to the emergency department. Seems he was bitten by some critter, and not knowing the
source of the problem, they felt the smart thing to do was take him to emergency. He is also recovering. Call
Ellie Aldrin and get a list of those who are ill and remember to send them cards..

STARS OF PARADISE #56, VIRGINIA VALENTE, W.M., LEROY SWEAT, W.P.
This is our season of Friendship nights and Official Visits and we are indebted to our Friends and to the Grand
Officers to attend these nights. To meet and mix with our sisters and brothers is cathartic to them and to us. We
are healthier and happier because of these contacts. On our March 13 meeting we will be honoring St. Patrick.
Wear a touch of green, especially if you are Irish. At our meeting of March 27, we will be honoring our own
General Grand Appointee, Brother Bob Townsend and our Grand Officers Georganne Rodgers and Patti
Herington. Join us on this very Special Night.
Congratulations to our own Bethel 19 on the initiation of their 5 new members, (we understand there are more
waiting to be initiated, HURRAY!) Some of us were unable to attend the initiation; sometimes we have already
committed to an occasion, but we were there with you in spirit. We are very proud of these Job's Daughters of
ours. Our own Chapter has initiated a new Member, Sarah Whitaker, and have the ceremony of initiation
scheduled for our Feb. 28th meeting. There are members out there just waiting; all we have to do is find them
and give them an application.
Stars of Paradise #56 has been catering dinners for the Scottish Rites Bodies, of whom our own Amixtocle Cocco
is the Master, and it has been a very rewarding experience. Your Worthy Matron wishes to thank all of those
members who have so willingly helped. Our next night to cater will be in the month of April & your help will be
appreciated. Contact your Worthy Matron, Virginia Valente (602-992-3858)
Our Star Night Out this month will be at the Sizzler at 2903 W. Bell Road on the west side of the street. Be there
around 5 PM, and let Jean Patterson know (at 602-992-8323) Remember she has to have a count of how many
will be there so that there will be seating for everyone.
Please remember to telephone the shut in members and those who are ill and let them know that they are in our
thoughts.

I would like to extend my deepest and most heartfelt thanks to all my Sisters and Brothers who have sent me the hundreds of cards and mostly all for their prayers.
In March of 2007, I was diagnosed with colon cancer which had spread to my liver. I had a new radical procedure which the doctors hoped would eliminate the dreaded six month death sentence usually caused by liver cancer; followed by chemotherapy treatments. Yesterday, January 14, 2008, I received the results of my latest test reports on my CT and PET scans. I am officially completely cancer free!
Once again, I would like to thank everyone who prayed for me. This truly is a miracle.

Holey Moley... this is the end of the year of 2007. It's been a good ride, and the year ahead can be also ... you can make it happen!
Congratulations to the New Jobie Officers, and to ALL of the new Presiding Officers and their crews in the various Masonic Bodies. I had the pleasure of sharing the Mistress/Master of Ceremonies' Honor with the new Master of the Lodge Eric Carter at the Installation Ceremony of the Job's Daughters on December 15. Let us remember the Grand Master's admonition to support our youngsters in their various Masonic Organizations.
We hope our loyal members will be out helping to clean the Lodge on the second and the 4th Saturday's of the month. We do appreciate those who help, this IS not a two or three man job, we need all of you and everyone can do something & since it is a daytime job you don't even have to drive in the dark.
On January 10 we will have a stated meeting starting at the usual time of 7PM. This will be Obligation Night and we will be initiating two new members. The 12th of January after we clean we will break for pot LUCK lunch while we playa game of Bunco, so you see it is not all work - we make it fun too.
Stars of Paradise will start the year out with a trip to Payson to the Matazal Casino. Come and ride with us! We will leave the Lodge on the morning of the February the 2nd at 8 AM. Remember - you give a donation of $10.00 and when you get to the Casino, they will give you a cash voucher to replace your donation. They also give you a scratch ticket for your next trip back to the Casino when you board the bus for home. Can't Lose, can you?
February 22 we will be dining at the "Logan's Roadhouse" located at Happy Valley Road and 1-17. See you there! Call Jeanne Patterson at 602-992-8323. Lets all honor our Worthy G.M.and the WGP, who is our own Ken Aldrin. The OV.'s for February are on the 3rd at Apache Star 62, in Mesa, the 21 st at Scottsdale #43, and on the 23rd at Acacia #48 in Avondale. See you there!
By the time this is printed we will have delivered baskets of sweet goodies to the shut-ins of our Chapter during the Christmas Season, wished everyone Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, had our parties and family doings, so now we must get on with the duties of our Organizations.
We hope it is a good 2008 year for everyone.

We hope that all of our members had a good Thanksgiving, as we have much to be thankful for in this Great Land of ours. November 15 your Worthy Matron dropped off 8 bags of stuffed animals at the Fire Department on 40th Street just South of Bell Road. A big thank you to Kathy Kelly for the donation of these toys. The fIreman, Mr. Dan arm, was very appreciative.
Our meeting on December 13 will be the only one for this month. We are asking members to donate cookies or holiday breads for baskets to take to our shut-ins.
This month we will be having our Annual Sale of Items at the Campo Bello Elementary School. Unless otherwise scheduled, the work is being done at the Worthy Matron's home on Tuesday's from 9:00 AM until about 11 :00 AM. Our members have been busy making and donating crafts for holiday gifts for the students to give to their family and friends. The profIts from our Jingle Bell Program will go to a fund to assist students when needed.
December 8 we will be going up to Payson to the Mazatal Casino with the Mesa Starlight group. We plan to leave the Paradise Valley Silver Trowel Lodge at 7:30 AM, leaving the Casino at 2:00 PM and arriving back at our Lodge in Phoenix around 5:00 PM.
We are happy to welcome two new members to our Chapter and are looking forward to January when we will initiate two more as our Sister and Brother.
A BIG THANK YOU to all who have helped in making our recent projects successful, (cleaning of the Shed, Campo Bello School Project, Cleaning the Lodge and the Down and Out Party). A special thank you to all who attended Bethel #19's meeting on November 12th in support our "Jobies".

To my wonderful Sisters and Brothers of Eastern Star...
I want to THANK YOU for the many, many cards I have received...first, for my Birthday Cards October 23rd and then, on the Sympathy Cards I had received on the death of my precious sister who died the following day. I was so grateful I had the opportunity to visit with her this past summer while she was still alive. Those memories are precious to me.
It was most heartwarming for me to receIve so many cards. phone calls, e-mails, etc.
You are all so dear to me and I really do want you to know how much I appreciated your thinking of me.
Again, THANK YOU !

Our Send Off-Official Visit on Sept. 8th in honor of the Worthy Grand Patron, was a dream that came true. More than
275 members helped us celebrate with Sister Imogene Richins, Worthy Grand Matron, and our own Ken Aldrin, Worthy
Grand Patron. Stars of Paradise Chapter received many compliments for the outstanding Send Off Special Meeting. We
want to express our gratitude to all members who worked on the 2007 Committee program, and all of our Members
who worked so hard to make our Official Visit an event to remember.
At the Oct. 11th meeting the Revisions to the By-Laws that were read at a previous meeting were discussed and voted
upon. Also, two petitions were balloted upon favorably & therefore we will have the initiation of new members at the
meeting on Oct. 25th. It was such a pleasure to have our members, Dottie Smidt, her brother John and Helen Clark
attend our meeting.
Congratulations are in order to five of our Sisters who were initiated into the "Daughters of the
Nile" with our own Dee Berkebile-Wright as their Queen. They were, Jeanne Patterson, Ellie Aldrin, Pattie Herrington,
Christina Weismann and Virginia Valente.
Your Worthy Matron hopes that others who have not attended our meetings
for awhile, will follow suit as we miss having you with us. School of Instruction was held for Stars of Paradise #56,
Sunnyslope #47, and Scottsdale #43 at the PV/ST Lodge on Sunday Oct. 14th, with Jean Patterson as the District
Instructor.
Veterans will be honored and a Thanksgiving theme will be observed at our Meeting on Nov. 11th, which
starts at 7 PM.
Members are asked to help with the cleaning of the Lodge on Oct. 27, Nov. 12, and Nov. 24, with the Job's Daughters
at 9:AM all days. Please join the workers and help your Chapter on this important project.
Our next Casino Trip will be
on Nov. 3rd & we will be going to Harrah's Casino in Maricopa. The bus will leave the Lodge at 8 AM, returning to the
Lodge around 3PM. ( Contact Jean Patterson at 992-8323). We invite our Members and their families and friends to join
us on these fun trips.
Star Night Out for the month of Nov. will be at Bill Johnson's Big Apple Restaurant on 19th
Avenue. Contact Carolan McCabe to make reservations. ( Phone # 480-513-0658) Bunco has been suspended until we
schedule the activity at one of the homes of a member. Betty and Leroy Sweat have graciously offered to hold the
games at their home , and we hope that other members will be equally generous.
Remember our ill and troubled members such as Johnnie Miller and Lois Koller, who have not been feeling well, Alesa
Gallian-Driere who fell and suffered sore muscles and bruises, Lee Babcock , Connie Townsend and Dorothy Farrar ,
who are now home and recuperating, and Ann Lau who recently lost her mother.
A card or a phone call can mean so
much.

The 2007-08 term has begun in earnest and we’ll all be busy again. Summer kept us busy planning the send off for Sister Imogene Richins, WGM, and Brother Ken Aldrin, WGP. We hope everyone enjoyed our first Official Visit.
Our Associate Matron and Associate Patron, Amixtocle and Walli Cocco weren’t able to attend because they were involved in a car accident the day before. Their car was totaled. They had cuts and bruises, but thankfully were not seriously injured.
The Worthy Matron wishes to thank all who helped make this day one to remember. Especially
the Send Off Committee: Jeannie Patterson, who was on call for months, Leian Faulkner for taking reservations, Melissa Lewis for buying the juice for the Continental Breakfast, Erna Meinders, Connie & Bob Townsend, Nancy Cochran, and Ellie Aldrin who made and provided the decorations and nut cups on the tables and assisted in so many ways.
Special thanks goes to our Big Program Producer, Sister Betty Sweat and her helpers the Kitty (Leian Faulkner) and the Bunny (Melissa Lewis) and of course to Sister Vivian Babcock who took time from her busy schedule to make beautiful music for all of us.
A big THANK YOU. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone.
This summer we assisted in two memorial Services; one for our Sister Mildred Durley and one for Sister Cynthia Ann Long (Kurin), a member in the State of Michigan who lived in the Phoenix Area of late.
Her daughter Deni Phinney of Tucson asked if we would conduct the Services and with the permission of the Grand Chapter, it was our
pleasure to do so.
Now we are ready to busy our selves with the affairs of the Chapter, which will include our Casino trips (Call Jeanne Patterson at 602-992-8323)
Monthly Dinner Nights:
Sept.25th at Abuelos, 7000 East Mayo Blvd.
Oct. 23rd at the Deer Valley Airport, 702 Deer Valley Road.
If you need more information call Carolan McCabe at, 480-513-0658 at least 3 days before the event.
Come and join our Bunko group on the second Sat. of each month. Pot Luck at 11:30am and Bunko at noon.
We will honor our Veterans at our Oct 11th
stated meeting.
On Oct. 19th and 20th we will hold our annual YARD SALE at the Lodge, located at 16027 North
25th St. in Phoenix.
Our next project is making crafts for the Campo Bello Christmas Holiday Hut which is held at
the Elementary School during the first week of Dec. The proceeds go towards helping students who can’t afford field trips, clothing, and other needed items.
Our best wishes are with the Grand Family as they begin their journey around the state.
May their Guardian Angels
always be with them.
