Greetings to everyone! This will be the final newsletter for our term. The time has gone by so quickly. We have had a very good year and wish to thank everyone for your support. All of our officers performed outstandingly and our pro-tems were so very much appreciated -- a big THANK YOU to all!

Our Official Visit on January24th went very well. Our WGM checked everything, and said that all was in good order. The dinner attendance was good and comments made that the dinner was delicious and the musical program by the WGP and Horizon's WM was very enjoyable.

Our February 14 Valentine's Friendship Night was a lot of fun....many of us were in Red...and Linda Richardson, our organist, played many "love songs" during the evening.

Sickness and Distress: We were saddened by the loss of Sister Jesse Williams, PGM who was also a member of our Chapter. An OES funeral was presented and her funeral was in Glendale. She will be missed.

Thank you again and Good Luck to the new officers.... Please come to Chapter when you can...we need your presence! God Bless!

Hello Brothers and Sisters, Just an update on my condition I have enjoyed seeing a lot of you at Paul's Memorial service, and David's and Alice's Wedding.

I have tried not to be too morbid. I'm sure you can tell I'm not recoverering as I had thought I would. The cancer has recurred in my brain. I will start sterotactic radiotherapy probably next week: 5 sessions, to try to eliminate the cancer.

I also have new metastases of the lung cancer to the liver and lymph nodes, and have already started aggressive chemotherapy for that. Obviously, I will not be attending any meetings for awhile. My family and I continue to have hope that this can be beaten or go into remission.

I have met many survivors of cancer who have had long hauls with chemo/radiation. I don't know if I have the strenght to go through it, but with your prayers and love, and God's help I shall try.

Thank you again for the lovely cards and phone calls, they do raise my spirits.

Please feel free to email me if you like.

Love Annamae

My Dear Annamae......How does one respond to this information except to say...."you are in all our thoughts and prayers". What you have been and are going through must be a perfect Hell and I know it must be very hard to feel "upbeat" at any time.

In 1999 I was diagnosed with uterin cancer and they removed all my reproductive organs .... my chances were approx. for 5 years to live. Since the tumors were contained///they opted to do a C scan and kept me "on watch". Since my OBGN doctor didn't suspect cancer, they weren't able to check my lymph nodes at the time and I am sure cancer cells are "floating" around my body waiting to land somewhere. Faith and prayer is my only answer, and I feel I have been lucky to reach 74.....each day is a good day, but believe me, when I don't feel good one day.....I do worry. Keep your chin up and I am sure God will direct your path ....

You know you are loved and missed by many. Big Hugs.....Phyllis Newberry

Posted December 9, 2007

Hello my Sisters and Brothers. I have not posted anything for awhile and thought I would give you an update. I also had lung cancer in the right upper lobe posterior: chest wall. I had contracted TB in 1993, and had many calcifications in my lung, plus one large "bleb" in the right upper lobe. I had chest xrays every two years, and they were all "no change". In 2006 I didn't get a chest xray, because the protocol for checking for TB activiy had changed, and if you aren't having any problems, the insurance dosen't pay for xrays. Ergo, if the radiologists are reading these right, I guess the cancer grew between 2004 and 2007. As I was asympotomatic, it is too hard to determine. However, the sign was the pain in my backthis spring. It turns out, the cancer had invaded my posterior ribs, and this caused the pain in my back. I had a right upper lobe resection, and resection of the affected ribs, on October 9, 2007. I spent 11 days in ICU, because I contracted pneumonia on the second day post op, had to have four bronchoscopies, to clear my lungs. Of course I was on antibiotics for a week after going home, as well as in the hospital. As you can imagine, I was pretty wiped out In the hospital, I told them to just let me die. But my family, friends, and your prayers kept me going. I guess God still has plans for me. I am getting better each day, but the doctors have told me that it may take months for me to get back to normal. Right now the thing is stamina and eating; I have a poor appetite, and can't stand the taste or smell of certain foods- it's getting better. All of this has also pushed this ex-smoker, now, into COPD, which means I will probably be oxygen dependent for the rest of my life. Now you have the story. I thank all of you for your calls, cards and prayers and think of you often. I will try to do better with returning email and calls.

Star Love,

Annamae

September meetings we carried on with a "country-western" theme. We welcomed a Dual Member to our Chapter from Oregon.

October brought a productive Rummage Sale drawing a lot of friends who relieved us of some of our "treasurers".

Our Octoberfest was "fun-filled" surprising us were three "twinkle~toes" living it up to polka to the music of our accordionist who played authentic German music for us. The "Chicken Dance" brought a lot of laughs, and we also had one two-some that performed a "Minuet". How about that?

Our November meeting honored Grand Esther Mildred Jones, Past Matron of Horizon which was well attended.

A "This is your Life" program was presented along with a Chapter gift and a musical tribute of Millie's favorite song, "You Light Up My Life" (a song her husband used to sing to her when they were traveling).

UPCOMING EVENTS:

December 13 at 7:30 PM is a Stated Meeting with Initiation and Carols.

January 10 at 7:30 PM is a Stated Meeting.

Good Morning my Sisters and Brothers. I'm home from the hospital. My surgeon did such a wonderful operation, my recovery was text book, and I was released from the ICU unit 8/30/07 early evening, and home with my family for supper. Of course there will be further treatment for follow up, so again,

I will not be getting out much, to protect myself from infection. I want to thank all of you , more than I can ever say, for your love, your prayers, e-mails, calls, and cards. Last week,

I had to type this with my left hand. Today, I type with both hands Not ready for piano plunking yet, but it will be good therapy. I have no pain, other than the aches for my age-ha ha. I love you all.

Good News!!! Annamae is home. She is doing well. However visits are not encouraged at this time as she is still undergoing chemo and radiation which weakens the immune system. An infection or cold at this time would not be desirable. Keep the cards and prayers coming.

Sister Annamae Bousquet had brain surgery for a lesion this morning. It was encapsulated and they were able to completely remove it. She is doing very well. I talked to her. They inserted medication into the brain while they were at it to pick up any wandering cells. She will continue to receive Chemo and Radiation to make sure nothing else is hanging around. She is in ICU and cannot have visitors at this time but would appreciate your cards and continued prayers.

Hello my Brothers and Sisters. It seems that I have a brain afterall. I have a cancerous lesion on the left side of my brain. This is what has caused my right hand and arm to loose it's function; as the left side of the brain governs the right motor neurons, the same as if it were a stoke or traumatic injury. I have started radiation and chemotherapy already, and am doing quite well.

I will be having brain surgery on 8/29/07 early in the morning, at TMC Hospital, in Tucson. I have the best doctors in Tucson working with and on me. My family and nurse friends will be taking care of me closely during my hospital stay and recovery period. More than likey, there will be follow up chemo and radiation treatments. As many of you know, it is most important that I protect myself from infections and fatigue.

I there fore ask you not to visit me for awhile. Your prayers, cards, and well wishes are more than welcome, and needed. I know I have my OES guardian angels and GOD on my side too.

I have asked Marilyn White to keep people posted on my status, including the WEB sites if needed, and she has agreed.

Sisters & Brothers

Beneby Haynes and I talked about 3 years ago, on the need to have more interaction between the Masonic Lodge and the OES Chapter. That is precisely how Oasis and Horizon began sharing the Installation duties. I have also tried for two years now to get our Chapter involved in exactly the kind of activity that Beneby and I spoke of, Oasis #52's Masonic Family and Friends Night, Which our Lodge has put on for 4 years now in the Spring and on its own, and is about to co-sponsor for the Second year with SABBAR Shrine here in the Fall. In memory of that fine lady I am going to keep on trying until we have multiple tables of OES folks at this wonderful event along with the other participants from all Masonic organizations here in Tucson. The details are below. If you need anything, let me know.

JUST A REMINDER!!!

Get your tickets early for our 2nd Annual Fall "Masonic Family & Friends Night" co-sponsored by Oasis #52 and the SABBAR Shrine, MC'ed by a couple of very funny people and with Frank Sinatra & The Kings of Pleasure Dance Band at the SABBAR SHRINE Sunday September 23, 2007. Doors Open At 5:00pm -

Dinner At 5:30pm - Oasis #52’s 50 Year Celebration At 6:30pm - Show Starts At 7:00pm

In addition to the wonderful dinner and show, Oasis Masonic Lodge #52 will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary.

For Tickets or Information - Contact: Bro Roger Cousineau 808-9757, or Bro Jason Petty 245-5000, or visit OASIS #52’s website www.oasis52.org where PayPal is also available. Every attempt will be made to seat your group together as you indicate when purchasing your ticket.

The past four years (with our Spring & Fall) MFFN's we have brought together for a night of Masonic Fellowship, an average of 140 Masonic Family and Friends, and created great nights of Masonic Fellowship with many different Masonic groups participating. We expect several new groups to join us this year. Come join in the fun and fellowship, and bring your friends and/or candidates for our fraternal organizations.

Come For The Masonic Fellowship And To Help Support Our Masonic And Shrine Charities

Hello Sisters and Brothers. Our Golden Chain has once again been broken. Sister Beneby passed away today, Tues, March 20, 2007 about 2:30 pm. Her family was with her.

There will be services, with refreshments to follow, at Sabbar Shrine, on Tucson Blvd, on Friday 3/23/07 at 1:00pm. As of this writing, this is a tentative, date and time; however, if you don't hear from me by 3/22/07, then it will be a definite date and time. So far the family is doing well. Let us keep all of them in our prayers, and offer assistance as you see fit. I know we will always keep Beneby in our hearts and memories; she is the epitome of what Eastern Star is all about.

While Brother David Haynes (Horizon #69) was in the hospital, Sister Beneby Haynes was also admitted. She has excurciating pain in her neck and when she went to the doctor on Thursday and he sent her directly to St. Joe's. She has spurs on her spine and with her frail health, they may not be able to operate. David got out today (Saturday) but Beneby is still there.

Hello Sisters and Brothers. Good news! David Haynes is being discharged from St. Joseph's to home today. He will have to go to cardiac rehab, but it looks like he'll be his old self real soon. Our prayers have been answered.

Now some sad news. Brother Paul Weathers has been admitted to TMC, room 533 bed 1, for some tests for pain in his left side, I have been told. I have tried calling the room, but no answer, so he is probably down for tests. Let's pray for him, that all turns out well.

Also, Beneby Haynees was admitted Friday to St. Joseph's, room 221 bed 1, for pain in her neck and right side; just found out about this from David this morning. I called her; she had an MRI done, but doesn't know the results yet. so let's say our prayers for her too. My goodness, what a week, for illness. Let's hope next week is better.

On the good news front, we had a wonderful time at Southern Star's Friendship night. We tied with Desert Star #54, with fifteen members each. We pooled our share of the Silver Drill, and had it go to Ronald MacDonald House- @$25.00; Desert Star will keep the plaque and bring it to our Friendsip Night 4/26/07, where it will be up for grabs by the other chapters. It is so nice to have the plaque as an incentive, but oh sooooo much nicer to see so many of our Brothers and Sisters coming to meetings.

See you 3/22/07 for our Baked Potato ans Salad Bar at 6pm, followed by our OV at 7:30 pm. Please stay healthy and happy. Star Love, Anname

Hello Sisters and Brothers. I have some sad news. Brother David Haynes, WP, suffered a heart attack on Tues, 3/13/07; he had four stents placed in one coronary artery that night. I saw him today, he is in good spirits, and progressing well. He is still in ICU at St. Joseph's, so no visitors or phone calls there. Send card to his home. Sister Beneby is holding up well, and their daughter, Michelle, flew in last night to stay with them for now. I will keep you posted as to his condition. Let's keep them all in our prayers.

On a lighter note, the Friendship at Southern Star #71, Green Valley is tonight at 7:30pm.. If you can come, please do.

Don't forget, our Official Visit is 3/22/07. We are having a baked potato and salad bar at 6pm for only $3.00/person. We will also be raffling off our remaining tiles that night, and some other surprises. So please come, and call another member to see if they would like to come, and maybe need a ride. That's it for now. Star
